2022/23 Patrols

Security Patrollers – Donations needed please

As we head into the festive season in Greyton, we expect a large influx of visitors and weekend homeowners. This is a great bonus for the Greyton rental income market and provides exciting opportunities for Greyton business in general. Visitors are the economic heart of Greyton village.
Unfortunately, it also brings massive opportunities for criminals.

Greyton Watch has thus secured the services of external watchmen who will be patrolling at night from Friday 16 December 2022 to Sunday 8 January 2023 and will be linked to our security companies, who are volunteering their services to respond to such callouts.

PLEASE DONATE TO FUND THIS PROJECT
We need R39 600 to pay these watchmen and we need to fund special neighbourhood watch jackets. Please donate what you can to fund this project, particularly if you do benefit financially from the influx of visitors over this period. A high crime wave will deter future visitors, and we know of many visitors who have been burgled this year who sadly will not easily return.
To Donate:
Please pay your donation directly to the Greyton Watch Non Profit Company before 9 December.

Greyton Watch has various projects on the go to build a better security network for the village. These include:

  • Contracted security companies for individual homeowners
  • WhatsApp groups for “eyes and ears” to report suspicious behaviour in the community
    • Current security providers voluntarily respond to reported incidences
    • SAPS is always available but has limited resources and cannot be everywhere at all times.
  • A handful of private homeowners using camera networks – very successful thus far.

These measures do help but more crimes do occur where these measures are not effective.
Greyton Watch has also been working on longer-term projects, amongst others:

  • Comprehensive camera network – a well-documented deterrent;
  • Advanced security network structure via the City Improvement District – application submitted and waiting for Council approval;
  • Active response network – formulating plans to roll out in 2023;
  • Actively supporting the current CPF (Community Police Forum) security initiatives going forward.

If you have any questions, please raise them directly with the board on the Whatsapp numbers provided.
